Can you force an app to run in iPhone mode on an iPad?

There's an app that I want to run in iPhone mode instead of iPad native so I can get a 16:9 aspect ratio. Can I just edit some .plist files to accomplish this or do I need to jailbreak?

I don't think you can do this, especially if the app is coded using the scalable size without a jailbreak. You'd basically have to force it (the app) to think you are using an iPhone.

iPhone mode on an iPad does not use the 16:9 aspect ratio anyway. It uses the shorter size because in 2x mode it still needs to fit on the screen.
