Technically, he's kinda right....

As has already been stated, as you approach C, time dilation occurs. If he is in an airplane moving (in any direction) faster than those on the earth, time will move slower for him than for everyone else. He will effectively be moving into the future. Albeit not very much

but he clearly stated, from the beginning he wants to travel BACKWARDS in time, not into the future

No, please, share. This is the best thing I've seen all week.

You and he are not on the same page. You and he are not even in the same library. You are talking about a matter of sociological convention. He is talking about physics. Not the same.

We know what you mean. Because we probably all went through this phase before. When we were about 7. Trust us. YOU'RE WRONG.

After careful review, this post wins as the best lure taken from my trollbait. I caught me a good one!

People don't understand time; it's not what you think it is.
It's complicated. Very complicated.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear non-subjective view point, it's more like a big ball of wibley-wobbley ... timey-wimey ... stuff.

Pretty much this. I rarely troll, but the few times that I have, I just did my best to seem genuine and laughed my ass off at the responses. Eventually I got bored with them and just stopped posting. When someone feels the need to post a "LOL your fell for my trollbait!" you can be pretty sure it's a cover.

This is a mistake. Many people choose to visit the past because it's readily accessible, it resides in memory but the future hasn't happened yet so the possibilities are virtually limitless. :)

Keep telling yourself that.

I don't mean going back in time. I don't know what I mean. Slowing time I guess. You would physically age just the same, but the hours would take longer, making for a longer day? Think about it, different planets have their own amount of time in a day, you're just changing your perception of Earth's.

Don't feel too bad. Time throws a lot of people, in fact most people. Arguably time is purely an illusion, a man-made concept with no basis in reality. It's part of the social contract, e.g. I'll meet you at 9:00, where ever, you have an appointment, the store opens at 10:00, etc. The notion of simultaneity (fundamental to the notion of time, at least the popular notion of time) was debunked near the beginning of the 20th century by scientists such as Einstein and Heisenberg.

The need to slow time (the sense of time) down, yes indeed! People have tried various things. Drugs, for one, but don't get screwed up or hung up. One guy I heard about changed his "schedule" to not conform to the customary 24 hour day. He went on a 23 hour schedule (or was it 25?). I'm sure the results were interesting. When you demystify it all you wind up with the fundamental truth that there's only the present. The past and future are just aspects of the present.

What's funny is that if you had an incredibly accurate watch, you would discover that Narse is wrong. Well, sort of. After you landed, you'd discover that your watch was "off" a tiny amount. And that's because time doesn't pass at the same rate in all frames of reference.

Correct but I figure the amount of time dilation would be so small that a regular watch would not even show the minuscule amount of difference.
