Need a TV tuner as I do not have room for a TV set. I have cable TV with "cable out" (looks like an antenna) and SCART out. I presume cable out is analog? Do I need an analog tuner or digital tuner or a DVB tuner? Cable box has DVB written on it so I suppose it doubles as a transmitter... I am rather confused.

Yep, you are very confused. :) Let's see if I can begin to straighten out the situation.

- You are somewhere in Europe.
- You have a TV signal coming from somewhere, most likely a cable box.
- You don't have a TV set, or are plannign to get rid of it to save space.
- You want to watch TV on your PC (presumably from the cable box).

Correct so far?

Not necessarily. I think DVB is more like a transmission standard. There are sub-standards for OTA (terrestrial), cable, satellite etc. (DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S).

4 x Yes.

I had to get it before Euro08 started. And I did. A cheap analog USB box from Pinnacle.
It does work, but not without glitches (like asynchronous sound and vision if you pause and resume playback) But it works. Thanks for your thoughts anyway.

I still have no clue about DVB but I guess I do not have to.
