I can, but I never would. It's a ham of a kick. The attacker can entirely judge how to block and when he/she should.

My favorite kick in a spar is a dash-back-side. Being a spin kick it's great for counter-attacks. being a dash-side it has immense power. being a back kick, you retain great defense because no vital parts face the opponent when you strike.

My other favorite is a simple double-round 'cause most people will try to block the fake, leaving their face open for the 2nd kick.

You think "crane" (jump-front as we call it in TaeKwonDo) is cool? Tornadoe kicks are hella sweet. (but mostly for show/finishing). I have enough power in that kick to shatter the opponent's cervical vertabrae. /me is proud of it :)

Man alive, I love martial arts....they're so fun.

Follow one of those up with a step-behind side kick and you have yourself a quite powerful and effective combo. :D Those two put together are one of my favs.

DAPUNISHER,
If someone's going to get into a fight, getting hurt is one thing. Getting disfigured for life isn't something that they should have to deal with for making a quick and stupid mistake. Atleast, not by me anyway. I do consider things to be dishonorable in a fight. I won't kick an opponent in the crotch. I won't break their neck or kill them. I won't disfigure their face. It's things like those that I figure any person, reguardless of whether they're wishing me physical harm or even death, deserves to keep.

Now... mess with someone I love and anything's fair game. I don't know why I respect them when they fight me but rip them apart when they're threatening a loved one, though. I've always been one for strict defense of them. That's something I haven't been able to figure out, for the life of me, in years.

Well, I'll just remember not to get into a fight with you. If I ever piss you off, you'll probably kill me ;)

I can do the kick. Its simple. I can kick 6"+ standing still and I'm only 5"10. I can jump off one leg and kick even higher.

As for fighting someone else. I think if that guys pushed me to fight then hes goind down asap. Punch/strike to the nec and elbow to face.

I avoid and don't fight but if I have to I will. Will protect myself and my family/ friends.

ffmcobalt, you and I share the exact same philosophy of fighting. Though, I try to avoid in the 1st place. :)

That's just it, I would never fight anyone, they would have to attack me without provocation forcing me to defend myself ;) I haven't been in a fight in 15 years and have talked my way out of several ugly situations(usually with someone who's been drinking) I'm 6'4" 220lbs so fortunately most sober folk don't unprovokedly accost me. BTW, it's very difficult for someone I don't know well to get under my skin, I guess because I have to know what your usually like to get angry about something you say or do.

My buddy, Joe, was punched at a bar soon after 9/11. Joe, being a passive pacifisct to point it's stupid (really) went back to the guy to ask why he hit him. After blurting something racially offensive (Joe's biological parents are from a small country near India) the guy decked Joe again.

None of our circle of friends were there. And while I don't condone fighting...I can tell you right now sh!t would have hit the fan had we been there. There are some excuses to why I'll beat the hell outta someone (or atleast try), and being a biggot and punching my friends because of it happens be right up there near the top.

Joe must have still been out of it from getting hit to go back up to the guy. I would have called the cops and had him prosecuted for a hate crime then sued him civil court ;) That would hurt far more than a butt whippin'

Heck yes, thats EASY..

Try this.

Take a broomstick and hold it at shoulder width. Now let your arms hang straight down. Now jump through it.

@ 48 I can still do that...

Try it ... (If you know half way through your NOT going to make it LET LOOSE otherwise you have a GOOD chance of landing on your face!)

If you make it, then try doing it the other way. (Start with it behind yopur back)

GOOD LUCK ;)

I would have called the cops...

Yeah, that's just not something that comes to mind because it's way more of a pain than it's worth....I guess. Atleast for students IMHO. Besides, we don't exactly trust the cops, here, to unbiasedly judge issues with either students or minorities, much less both.

Strangely enough I've never tried. But I'm sure I could, seeing as it's a variation on a jumping kick.

What's this stuff about front kicks only good as setups? I can kill with a single snap kick to the front. That ain't so useless. Front kicks can be incredibly devestating if executed properly. Of course side kicks and good roundhouses can be far more powerful, but front kicks aren't useless.

Koing, do you mean 6'+ forward? I can do 8'+ from standing, no bounce, with a forward jump kick. Great opener for sparring. ;

I used that in my staff routine. Nice little trick. Best kick I ever pulled was a flying side to spin back but I somehow got my spin back to go vertical. So my first kick was at 6' and my second was close to 9', my face was pointed at the ground and my whole body was upside down. Didn't fall either, actually landed on my legs, I was proud of that one.

The other kick I used a lot in sparring was my hook. Reason being that a lot of people when sparring only pay attention to what's in front. I'd throw my leg up and made it look like a side kick, then I'd throw it wide and hook it so I'd slap em in the head from the side. We had rules about contact to the head so I wouldn't land the kick, just a real light tap on the ear or something to let them know I got em. Best hook I threw was against an instructor (he was like 6'2" and I'm only 5'9"), he threw a round, I ducked under it, and I whipped out a full speed hook right at his head, felt my toe brush against his hair. The whole class was floored, they thought I was going to take his face off. Hehe, you should've seen the look on his face, he went all pale after that one.

Took me almost 4 years to get my TKD BB because I didn't want to rush it, kept going for another 2 years before I hurt my knee. Man that was fun. Not practical for fights but fun. Fights you just want to get them over with quick, nothing fancy.

So who here knows Jeet Kune Do (JKD). I joined a club in college and we had very beginner type stuff... and I want to study it more... but it's not like every martial arts place offers it... very specialized... opinions on it ?
