if you cant get it to divide, you have to use the green diamond and then hit enter. that gives you the exact approx. answer

if you do 11/5 in the calc and its on auto/exact, it will give you back 11/5 as an answer. hit diamond + enter = 2.2

one-half = 0.5 = (1/2)

if you're asking whether to change between decimal (0.5) and fraction (1/2) when getting an answer, hit the menu (i think) button, and go down to answer> exact/approximate. exact gives you fractions and approx gives you a decimal answer plus rounding. you could also press the green diamond key while it's on approx. to get an exact answer shown.

OK, I definitely know what you are talking about because when I first got a Ti-89 I couldn't figure it out either. The calculator mode is probably in "approx" mode so to get fractions you should go to "MODE", then go to the second page and scroll down to exact/approx and choose "exact" and that should give you fractions.

Damn, I still have my old-skool TI-82 and TI-85 from back in the day. Thank goodness I'll never need them for anything more than a calculator now. :D

what is the 96? do you mean the 92/Voyage 200?

The 89 and 92 are nearly identical, the 92 has an added qwerty keyboard, larger screen and built in geometry tools.

but the HP-48 and 49 own all.

Blasphemy! My 89 got me through three years of school. The only thing it sucks at is solving equations involving trigonometry.

The Ti-89 eats its own children.

... The US probably has TI-89's that are capable of starting a nuclear war ...
