can you do a repair install on win8?

runs ok on my laptop (from what i can tell) but on my PC windows 8 is a pain. almost no USB devices install (printer, scanner, phone - even my mouse was a pain) and it won't install updates - failed on reboot and rolls them back.

problem is there's not infcache.1 on windows 8 (that i can find) to try and resolve some USB problems

i don't want to do a clean install but want to try and fix this - can i just install win8 again in desktop, choose to let it get up to date files and keep settings? is that the same thing?

You can try a Refresh or Reset option http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410848,00.asp ,if that does not work then clean install is only option.

decided to just do a full reinstall instead but not sure what the best way of doing a clean install with upgrade media on a new drive is (just got a new SSD)

finally got around to doing this and the repair install did nothing really. everything was still screwy (failed straight away at win updates).

booted off my win8 flash drive and did a totally new install (wiped prev partition etc) and updates installed fine now.

guess the whole pc reset thing isn't as good as a new install for some reason
