Can You Develop Apps for a Smart HDTV?

Can you? Or can you only use the apps that come with the TV. Can you create your own apps and put them on there? Otherwise, if it is not a smart HDTV, would it be possible for the TV to utilize apps that I make for it?
 
you could hack the firmware if you know enough about it, but I doubt it. And smart tv does not imply it is the same thing as a smartphone.

haha touche. I was annoyed because those people were off-topic and that thread had nothing to do with smart apps. This thread, however, is about smart apps, so talk away 🙂
