SO much can go wrong.

Lets say you deposit $500.
They can claim you deposited $400

I used to balance an ATM and it was always done under dual control. Chances of that happening are very slim.

One of my problems when I was stolen from may have been that I didn't have a pen at the moment and didn't write anthing on the envelope, so it wasn't marked as containing cash. I never figured that would make a difference, but from reading some of the archived posts, I see it may have. (I always figured the dot-matrix sound I heard after inserting the deposit was all the transaction info being printed on the envelope, and that was good enough. Maybe not.)

I've deposited cash into my wells fargo account through the ATM a couple times (not much money though). Never had a problem.

I deposit cash all the time (hundreds of dollars sometimes) and I've never had any problem whatsoever. Fleet's been very good to me in all kinds of ways, not the least of which is not stealing my money when I deposit it. And I never put in a deposit slip, or write anything on the envelope either. Stupid, maybe, but hell, it's a BANK; I kind of have to trust them.

I've found that Wells Fargo tellers and phone reps are pathetic. The tellers are just cashiers, and the phone reps are just CS dolts. On the other hand, at my credit union (and at Norwest before they were bought out by Wells Fargo), these people have a much higher level of authority and responsibility, and can actually help you if you have a problem or a question, instead of just reading off the computer screen. (The Wells Fargo "first line of service" people apparently have the exact same delayed info on their monitors as I can find for myself on the bank's web site; the real-time transaction info is queued up for a once-a-day update deep inside the electronic ether, where nobody at the branches or "phone-banking" has access to it.)

Pathetic people who are paid pathetically and given no respect or significant responsibility do occasionally steal from work.

(I know you said you were kidding, har har, but it's no laughing matter when it directly affects your money.)
