Can you defrost some ground beef, then refreeze it?

Hi all,

We had a huge thing of ground beef in the freezer (one of those roll type deals), and I only needed a bit of it. So I defrosted it enough to be able to cut off the end... do I now have to cook the rest of it or am I able to refreeze it?

Thanks :)

It doesnt taste and/or look the same after its frozen then defrosted.

I like to seperate these things in smaller portions while they are fresh from the store.

You can but it will be very dry. Put it in the fridge and make something else for the next few days.

That is what I usually do, but my housemates bought it and just threw it in the fridge.

NO, you will die.

j/k. It will be fine. It is really hard to mess up ground beef. Takes talent. Just break it up into smaller portions before you throw it into the freezer. Saves defrosting time unless you have a hammer and chisel.

Just throw the whole thing frozen in a hot skillet. After a while some parts will flake off or you can scrape then off.

Once you have enough throw the part that is still frozen back in the freezer.
