Can you damage your wrists using a mouse too long?

Is it possible to damage your wrist just using a mouse too long? Ive been doing alot of gaming recently and my right wrist has been somewhat sore/stiff. I have one of those ergonomic mouse pads and such, but im not sure if it is helping.

Yeah, definitely. Just make sure you're sitting straight and everything's at the right level.

Really? I always just assumed it was from typing, but I guess thats not so.

yep, mouse and keyboard can cause it.

i think i might have early stages of it or something. every so often my wrists hurt really bad for a few days then it goes away.

I wonder, would proper stretching help? Or is it just better to take breaks, like two hours on, one hour off, something of that sort?

Maybe RSI if you were using your computer excessively (6+ hours a day for a few months) but carpel tunnel seems unlikely. Carpel tunnel generally strikes people who are around vibrations a lot - drummers are a prime example. Of course carpel tunnel can strike anyone who is using overly repetitive motions but it is unlikely unless you've been doing it for years.

OK I must be suspect to it cuz if I'm browsing ATOT I'm usually not sitting straight up and my mouse certainly isn't at the right level 😛

With standard computer use (switching from keyboards, to mouse, to other office equipment), study after study has shown that there is NO chance of getting carpel tunnel syndrome from the keyboard/mouse.

However, if you don't use it in the standard way (say you game for hours on end with just the mouse), I suspect there is a slight but noticible risk for carpel tunnel.

Just switch things up a bit. Don't use anything repetitively without breaks. And change your angles during the usage if you have to use anything for long periods.

Unfortunately carpel tunnel is a bone condition so stretching will have a minimal effect. The best idea is to take regular breaks (more like 1 hour on, 20 mins off) and simply don't spend your life on a computer.

I believe its possible.

My roomate used to play world of warcraft for like almost 8 hours a day or more. He actually has calices on the bottom of his wrists from sitting there at his desk. He played a ton. Since the game has came out he has like over 4 months of actual play time. Talk about a waste of life in my opinon.

course, tahts the whole point of the link between comp use the rsi. u gotta have the correct setup, good furniture so u don't contort, good equipment that doesnt fight u, and good positioning so you don't cause excessive strain. good mousepad/mouse.. i like the mx series since you can sorta hold them with hand almost sideways. ergo ms keyboards are cheap, takes a few hours to get used to maybe. my ergo multimedia oem one cost 25 from a local small comp shop. not sure if those ergo mouse pads help or hurt since they seem to encourage u to crush your wrist against the pads. i just use a flat pad and keep my wrist/arm straight
