Can you count how many passes are made in this video?

Let's see how good your senses are. This is a video with a group of kids passing two basketballs around. It's very confusing so you have to pay close attention if you want to get the exact number of times the two balls have been passed. Not many people can do it!

Post how many passes you counted

If you already took this test please post later...

I hope not a repost but like everything else it probably is... despite no results on advanced search for "basketball count passes" or even "count passes"

bah, yeah I guess most of you already saw this experiment, thanks for holding out 😉

I just learned about it today so that's why I was really interested in it, and no I didn't notice the gorilla.

Just noticed this is a much better way to pass this test along to someone else since the narrator explains everything real good:

Oh god, this is that "change/inattention blindness" bullshit isnt it? Stupid cog psych crap. 98% of all visual cog psych is shit. They only publish because the whole field is shit. If there is a sector that should have funding cut its these loosers. That being said, i counted 31. But, these experiements prove nothing at all about perception unless you are a cog psych person.

the CPT teaching my military science class showed us this, and I don't think ANYONE noticed gorilla the first go around. Interesting, as watching it now... I think, "how the hell did I miss THAT?!"

Yea I think everyone has seen this already.. the average ATOTer is pretty intelligent.. either that or they won't post if they don't know the answer to avoid looking dumb. =D

nope, not into psych at all. But I was really fascinated with the results of this little experiment on myself. I find it's really interesting *shrug*

yeah exactly, I was almost ashamed of myself for not noticing it when I first saw it

It means instead of sitting there posting on ATOT you should be developing a cure for cancer for the rest of us...

joking aside, maybe you just were not taking the task seriously enough so you were not so focused ?

I counted 30. but some looked more like hand-offs... 😛

EDIT: actually, some were blocked by the damn gorilla, and I was thinking to myself "get that damn gorilla out of the way, I can't count the passes!" so I guess I did notice it on the first run through...

who cares, wth was the point of this?

why was there a gorilla in the middle of my counting ? he didnt even get the ball -_-

must be a loser gorilla.

Lol. This trick gets over 90% of people. Your brain is so focused on the balls, that it shuts out almost everything else. There was a Discovery Channel special on this. It was funny because at the End, the show revealed that there were guys in gorilla suits in 15 different wide open places in the movie, and I missed all of them

and were you so focused on counting that you didnt notice the gorilla too?

I noticed the gorilla, but I did my best to not let it break my focus.

Yeah, same with me, i seen it walk in and was like wtf, but when back to counting...

Yeah, tell all the top race car drivers that as they extensively use these kinds of tests to increase mental and visual acuity.

The OP failed to instruct everyone to focus exclusively on passes made by the "white shirt" team. Passes made by the players in black were not to be counted. That additional little detail makes it easier to miss the gorilla.

EDIT: I should also note that I wasn't even paying that close of attention to the passes my first go-round because I was expecting the video to flash one of those "scare" images right at the end with a big scream. Teh interweb has jaded me.
