Can you connect Wireless printer without "File and Printer Sharing"?

I have File and Printer sharing disabled because I don't use it, use FTP software instead between machines, so ideally I'd like to leave it disabled.

Can network/wireless printers be added and used manually by simply inputting their IP address without using this feature?

Or is File and Printer Sharing essential for these kinds of printers?

You do not need to turn on File and Printer Sharing to access a network printer. The ones I have used have been accessed via their IP address.
