Can you connect two routers together that are connected to separate internet connections?

my apartment has two diff internet connections but sometimes we want to play games on the same network. Would I be able to connect two routers through the switched ports? one router has a device IP of 192.168.1.1 and the other 192.168.1.254

if a computer automatically detected it's IP which router would it use?

Hmm, interesting question. I have no idea. ;) I'm guessing the interal LAN connection would work fine, but I'm not sure how the internet sharing would work. My guess is since you have to set the TCP/IP gateway for each computer, it'd use the router with the correct gateway for internet access.

Are you talking about 2 different PC's each with it's own 'net connection through its own router?

I think he means running the routers in parallel with a cat5 cable between them, and then having computers connected to each router.

I'm asking about his current setup. A picture would be nice too!

I'll assume you have at least two different computers plugged into the two routers with an uplink between the two routers. The order of connections would be determined by your network settings. If you have no specified gateway, it will use the first one it finds. However, if you specify gateways, it will try to use the first one that it is listed and if that is not available, it will move to the next one. Just put the reverse order on the second computer and they should both hit different routers. Do not forget to turn off the DHCP service on one of the routers or you will have an IP conflict problem.

Three computers are connected to each router. One of the routers is a SMC barricade and the other is a Linksys BEFSR41. I'll need a 50 ft cable to test if it works though since one router is on the first floor and the other is on the second. Actually, i'm going to try it right now.

success!!!

It works perfectly. The two sets of computers are still connected to the internet via the router and when I connect the two routers EVERYONE can see each other on the network. I can finally whoop my buds upstairs in a friendly game on rogue spear and couter-strike.

That'd be weird if i could but the only thing is that both connections are connected to the same T1 though. How does that work? I have never heard of connection teaming.
