Can you connect two computers by their line in and line out connectors?

I have a laptop and a desktop.
Both have XP.

Will any damage be done by using the 1/8 inch mini jacks to connect them?

Can I listen to streaming audio on my desktop and have it play through my speakers on my laptop by connecting them?

thanks all

Yes, should work fine. That's how I currently have my 2 computers playing out of the same set of speakers.

I concur...I mean the line out signal on the soundcard is no different to line out on any other device and I have 3 things plugged into my line in via an audio switch box.
