Can you connect to the BF2 account server?

WHen I try to connect to it (by logging in) the mouse turns into the spinning "2" and the game freezes. I just bought the game and I want to play it :|

From reading a few of the BF2 forums, it looks like it's down. Someone suggested they were clearing out the suspicious high scores.

Over at battlefieldhosting.ea.com (which seems to be down at the moment as well), here is what they posted early this morning:

First of all, we want to thank our customers for their patience during this very trying time. We have tried to keep your servers available to you for play while we seek to recover or restore as much information to our database as possible.

Due to the severity of the issues that we have been addressing, we have decided to go ahead and execute today on a plan of significant facility and hardware upgrades that we were planning to do in late fall. As a result of the move and the hardware upgrades you will see various components of our system, including the game servers, go offline and back online over the next forty-eight hours.

We again apologize for this interruption of service but this facility and hardware upgrade would have been necessary in the near future and we have therefore decided to execute it in conjunction with our database restoration.

We understand the importance of our service to our customers and we will make this upgrade as quickly and painlessly as possible but, in return for this disruption in our web interface and due to the move, we will be crediting each of our customers with a free week of service.

Thank you again for your patience. "

They have a good excuse, but poor judgement in not making it a little more public.
