can you connect to a dial up ISP with a VoIP cable modem?

can you plug a POTS modem into the rj11 port of the VoIP modem and dial out to a dial-up ISP?

not that you'd want to since you have high speed cable for internet, but sometimes you might need another IP address?
but if you wanted to you, could you?

It works for some people, others have problems with it. Presumably it all depends on the voip system. Many people also experience additional latency when doing so. I'd say its a roll of the dice and may not be fast.
