Can you connect a molex from one device to another?

I ran outta Molex's on my PSU. I was wondering can I connect a molex from one fan to that of another or is that asking for trouble?

You can get Y-splitters and passthroughs for the power cables; however, it is possible to put too many high-drain devices on one cable (hard drives, mostly) and damage your PSU. But with a couple fans, this should not be a problem. Splitters should be available anywhere that sells computer parts; I know CompUSA stocks them.

I dont believe your going to have a problem. It takes alot of devices on a line to cause a problem.

Say your running a hard drive, a cpu fan, and 2 case fans on one line, thats not asking for trouble in anyway.

Alot of power supplies only give you two main molex lines, in which most people use the first for the optical drives, say you have 2. Then they use the next for the hard drive, video card and multiple case fans.

Most people do this setup basically because its the neatest, physically.

You would have to have a very large ammount of power sucking devices on one line to see a problem with your PSU.

Some fans, especially if they get stalled due to clogging or interference, can cause power fluctuations on the wires that they are connected to, and aren't always the best choice to connect to HDs as well, if there exist alternative layouts. Although, I've rarely had problems that way, the few times that I did, it actually turned out to be a loose molex. Just don't connect a "fan only" lead to a HD. 😛
