can you combine a 7200rpm & 5400 rpm ata100's in raid 0 without any performance degradation?
would the rpms really matter if they're both ATA100s? Anyway, the first hd is a quantum fireball 7200rpm udma100 and the second hd is a maxtor 5400 rpm udma100. I'm using a maxtor udma100 card modified to a raid controller in a kt7 mobo.
thanks.

yes you can.

of the combinations of speed and capacity in any array, for raid0, the array will be up to 2x the capacity of the smallest drive, and as fast as 2x the performance of the slowest drive. people tend to recommend the same drives in the array so as to not waste capacity or speed. but you can mix drives in theory. rpm, GB, ata## aside, the above is correct.

i don't know if there CAN be incompatible drives, but i highly doubt that is possible.

performance degradation is kind of um, a strange thing to describe the effects of raid0 with different drives.

yes you can combine unlike drives, controller defaults all drives to the specs of the slowest drive.
