Can you change your graphics in your laptop?

i dont particulary know that much about laptops. can you get new ram for it and install it yourself? also can you get a new graphics card and install it yourself?

You can upgrade the RAM in pretty much every notebook, even the original orange "toilet seat" iBook G3 used standard PC100 SO-DIMMs.

Graphics upgrades are rare. Some notebooks, generally the thicker, larger "desktop replacement" models have upgradable graphics. The cards themselves are usually really expensive unless you're buying an older second-hand used card via eBay. BIOS and firmware issues also come to mind. I have a friend with a 2-year-old Dell notebook with upgradable graphics. Dell never made newer graphics cards for it, even though some newer Dell models uses the exact same size graphics card. He tried to upgrade the graphics, but the machine wouldn't even POST due to some BIOS/firmware imcompatibility.

Halfadder is right - most laptops do not have video or graphics cards - they have chipsets soldered on to the mainboard, and thus are not user upgradeable. There are a few exceptios as was mentioned.

Unless your laptop has a MXM, Mobile PCI Express Module, you can't really change the graphics card. However, if your laptop support Expresscard, Magama www.magma.com will be coming out with an Expresscard to PCI Express chassis. You can install PCI Express video card in that. However, Expresscard only run at 1x.
