Can you buy a socket 478 Mobile P4? Where?

I'm trying to build a low power (electrically) pc that's capable of running in a car, probably in a shuttle or equivalent chasis. I would really like a P4 based system, except P4s use a lot of power, I think I may do better with a mobile P4. I saw that the Anandtech website ran their 800mhz fsb comparison with some kind of P4-M 1.7 in a standard sounding mobo, which makes me think it was packaged like a regular socket 478 P4.
Any ideas where I could get one? Any other ideas concerning the whole build a PC that could run in a car and is fast enough to play games and decode divx5/xvid (needs to be at least faster than a 1ghz p3, that's too slow, from my testing) ?
Thanks,
Seth

hello, sethk, and welcome to the Forums:)!

Firstly, while the P4 Mobile cpu's are rated to run at relatively low wattage in a laptop (1.3Vcore, I think), they will always run at 1.525Vcore in a desktop board; that's just the way it is. Not only that, but the P4m will always default to a multiplier of 12 in a desktop board, so you'd want to make sure you put it in a motherboard that can overclock ALOT, so that you don't end up with wasted performance; otherwise, you'll end up with an expensive 1200MHz cpu in your system;).

Secondly, the standard starting point for locating vendors/pricing is a website called Pricewatch. You can browse by category to find whatever it is you're looking for. Also, there is a little icon/button just under the Navigation menu on the upper righthand side of the Forum page, called
search; alot of us use it to see if anyone here on the Forums is selling what we're looking for or knows where there may be a hot deal on whatever that item may be. It's also a terrific way to mine the forums for information about operating systems, video cards, networking, overclocking, motherboards, etc. I've found it to be an invaluable resource; remember that if you can think of the question then it probably stands to reason that someone else may have thought of it and gotten it answered before you came along:).

Have fun here on the AT Forums, it's my favorite online community and there are some terrific/supersmart people here:D!
