can you burn a VCD file to a CD and play on a DVD player?

Hi everyone, i have 2 files that make up a movie. There are in .AVI format - (vcd I think) Does anyone know a way I can burn these to a CD and watch it on my TV through my DVD player?? (My DVD player will play VCDs) Can this even be done? Thanks!

Cut it up and make sure each movie is under 74 minutes.
Then download NERO (newest ver.). Startup the program and go to VideoCD.

SEttings:
Create Standard - Checked
ISO LEVEL 1
ISO9660 for Character Set
Relax ISO Restrictions checked.

Don't use disc at once, and probably shouldn't burn above 4x
