.... you sir are the dumbass. what kind of xeon's are you talking about? the 1.7ghz? How much is a firewire card? 30 bucks at the most... dvd burner, no prob, like a 60 scsi hd is a big deal, like he said, set up a raid array and it would be much better. Dual head video cards arn't that much anymore and you can pick up two 18" lcds for 2g... his system probably cost him about 2g to build. Don't start a flame war if you dont know what your talking about.

I could easily add a RAID0+1 array using the 64-bit PCI slots on my Tiger MP, quadruple my RAM to 2 GB, add firewire support, drop two 17" LCD's on my Matrox G450, and STILL keep it under $10,000.

Adobe Premier is $600.

The only thing I don't know for sure on is the camera/svhs decks.

Anybody have prices on those?

3CCD camera will be around $2500-3000 easy. $2,499.00 for the Canon GL1 miniDV camcorder on Apple's site, although you can definitely find it cheaper.

Similar to what Vipers? Good for you fanboy. You don't have one that is similar to what Mrfrog840 was talking about.

Hmmm that kind of goes over your $2,000.00 budget doesn't it?

First of all, everyone who is saying that the $10,000 price tag is too high aren't taking everything into consideration. A good 3-ccd dv camera, with batteries, case, tripod, etc., costs at least $5,000. Software is not cheap nor are s-vhs decks. Anyway, as a computer and video person, I put together a system that might work for you, only ordering from two reputable dealers, newegg and B and H photo video.

From your post, you are either someone with lots of equipment (didn't ask for batteries, tripod, lights, filters, chargers, ac adaptors, etc.) or you don't know much about video. if it is the latter, I highly suggest you find soemone who can help you out. I hope I have helped you.

just reading the many relpies, i don't think MrFrog840 will be getting his system anytime soon. and i don't know why you people would replace SCSI drives with IDE drives just to skim off that few extra hundred bux in saving.

-edit-
spoke too soon.

that looks like 4000 there... I still have never said a word about a $2000 budget.

and that post that you quoted was backing up vipers statement on how his computer didn't cost him 10 grand and it was far better than the spec's that were listed. why spend $10,000 when something better can be made for less?
