Can you buff a small scratch out of a laptop screen?

I have a Dell Latititude that is about 5 months old that has a small scratch on the screen. It's not bad, just enough to be distracting every once in awhile. Is there a way to buff these out?

Not recommended at all. Most likely you'll end up with shiny spots on your LCD. Live up with the scratches or if you want buy a LCD film protector which would somewhat hide the scratches. This is like the filter screen you put on regular CRT's except they are purely film in material.

I wouldn't recommend buffing a LCD.

You can buff a CRT if it doesn't have an anti-glare coating. If it has a coating, you'll either have to live with the wcratch or else buff off all the coating. Which probably isn't a good idea.
