can you boot to post with no memory in the motherboard?

No memory would give alarm beeps. The sequence is different with different motherboards.

I _think_ that the BIOS has to copy itself from firmware into system memory before the processor can begin executing the POST. If that's true, then no system memory means no way for the processor to begin executing the POST code.

If the CPU is good you will hear a beep code error. (assuming the PC speaker is connected to the headers OR the motherboard has its own speaker onboard.)

This is Correct..

if the mobo is dead it won't post neither w/ or w/out ram (or all other parts involved) .. ;)

nothing says "dayum!" like a bnib retail dead mobo after testing outside the case and all the other pieces are running fine in another setup just fine ...
