Probably is the SB Live! Get yourself a Philips Acoustic Edge or a Hercules Game Theater XP.

VIA chipset + SB! Live 5.1 = Your problem.

Get rid of the VIA chipset-based mainboard. It'll solve that problem and many, many others. :D

Better yet.

Update your SBLive drivers and 4in1s and smack all the people who are ignorant.

you know, I don't know what you guy's are talking about, I ran a Biostar M7M with a Via Chipset for a year w/ a SB Live! X-Gamer with no problems at all.

I personally think win2k's hadling of HL/CS is abit flaky.

same hardware in two different boxes (CPU difference, Celery vs P3)... celery=win2k, p3=win98.

p3 never had issues with random locks.

celery experienced alot (though, not as frequent as what he says :p)

that's simply it...win2k + CS = terrible...

it's pretty much the ONLY reason i dual boot...sad, but true...
after all, it's like my fav. game.

(btw, I get too many problems w/ CS under win2k to even bother trying ot play it in 2k...i.e., A3D locks up, sped up clock?????, etc.)
