I was using sisoft Sandra 2001 on my comp for cd roms and the results I got!!!!!! It's I/O magic 56x cdrom.
Disk tested: data CD
File size :616 mb

Disk index:111334
Drive techmology: 1235x cd speed
Track speed:654497 rpm (estimated)
buffered read 456Mb/sec
Sequencial read 181 mb/sec
Random read 483 kb/sec
Average access time 98 ms (full stroke, estimated)

I think i should use some other bench marks on this. Doeas anyone has similar experience on this?

i don't use sandra. it rates my hard drives lower than my 540 meg ide hard drive in win2k, and i have uw2 scsi drives. blah.

but can you still believe this? 56X cd rom is rated as 1235x? *LOL* I am very proud of my drive though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

something wrong in the calculation in the sequencial read speed.. the access time sound right, so does the random read.. I couldn't imagine what happen if the CD is actually spinning at 1235x 😀

Okay I will down load the software and test it tonight. But maintenence caost of your first born would more than my cd rom so i will stick to the cd rom at the moment!!!1 do you actually have a kid thouhg??? hahahahahahha

Okay i did the test with dr hardware 2000 also with the same CD in the drive. The results are

Accsees time (ms)
1/3 stroke 43(my drive) 71(ATAPI 44x)
Medium 70(my drive) 81(ATAPI 44x)

Data tranfer rate (kb/s)

Sector reading 3654(my drive) 2960(ATAPI 44x)
File reading 93005(my drive) 6403(ATAPI 44x)

Well its a different test and everything seems okay except file data tranfer rate!!! 93 mb/sec??? How is that possible? It's only a ATA 33 drive.
