Can you believe this cooling setup?

I just took over a network, including three servers. The main file server just failed. One of the hard drives died and our data got corrupted. After opening it, I can see why. It had four SCSI hard drives and dual Pentium II processors. For cooling, it had the standard PS fan sucking in, and an 80mm, 33cfm fan on the lower front, also blowing in!! Of course, the processors had standard cooling fans and heatsinks.

I ordered, and will install, some more fans. I got a 120mm Globalwin fan for the front of the case that puts out 133cfm! I will blow this out after cutting a hole for it to move all that air out. I also got three hard drive coolers that mount in the 5-1/2bays, blowing onto the hard drives. The fourth hard drive is below and I cannot get a fan to it.

So, I will have the power supply fan, and three hard drive coolers blowing in, and the Globalwin exhausting through the front. There are also a column of holes in the back of the case that will allow air to be drawn in. I hope this will be enough. By the way, we keep this computer room cool, about 68-70 degrees. I am hoping this will be enough cooling.

That's nuts! :Q I wouldn't cool anything beyond my dad's eMachine with that! Well, that GW 120mm fan should get the job done. If I were a server builder I'd use the Alpha heatsinks and YSTech 60mm dual-ball-bearing fans too, they have a MTBF of 75,000 hours!

For kicks, here's a link to some good pictures of Team Anandtech's web server, which should be operational soon: http://teamanandtech.dhs.org/images/server/new/

The hard drives will be in the 5.25" bays, directly in the path of that 120mm YSTech. The 60mm fans are YSTech's too. I am told this computer howls, but it will be in a server room... :)
