Okay here's the deal I"m building a machine for a friend.
He doesn't play videogames often so 3D acceleration is not a must have.
He eventually wants to record vcr to svcd or dvd.
Tv capture would be nice.

I'm guessing this would detail VIVO of some sort?
Help me out here guys, I'm a gamer not one of these peep's that does DV editing or watching tv on my montior.
I'd like to steer clear of ATI products but if you feel it's really a winner suggest it!
Budget is 80.00-90.00 shipped.

It really sounds like what your friend needs is an ATI Radeon 7500 AIW. I know you said you'd like to avoid ATI but it probably fits the bill the closest of all the products I'm familiar with. They can be had for cheap too, but maybe not $80 - $90.

Yea I saw that in the HD forum, I think a GFmx 440 with vivo or maybe even an ATI 9000.

ATI Radeon 7500 AIW.

Seeking Tao how are the drivers for this?

Drivers for any current ATI product are good solid drivers...

I'd second the recomendation of an AIW 7500

I'm going to agree with this statement Oakenfold. I don't think your friend will be disappointed.

Sorry guess I should have been a little bit more clear.
I've never used an AIW before is it any different than any other ATI card in terms of driver installation or compatibility?

Wow they want 100.00 on PW for that old chipset.
The AIW's hold their value huh?
Lowest on PG is 126.00 shipped.
This chipset is old, unreal.
Why in the world does this card hold it's own after this long of a time?
Okay so it looks like this is going to be out of his budget, guessing the VIVO has to go.
If we knock out VIVO what would you guys look at?

I too recommend AIW 7500. Heck, plain Radeon 32mb AIW even would do it.

I recommend because it has much clear text/image than Nvidia cards.

I have never had any problems with ATI's drivers either..

Quality stuff. =)
