Can you be naturally funny?

Or do you at some point in your life have to be exposed to show(s) with humor? If so, recommend any?

My humor level sucks.

Wait what?

Your humor depends on your life experiences, your outlook/view on life, and your general knowledge. You can't just watch a show and be funny.

Some people seem to have a "knack" for it. The biggest thing that it seems you can't really "teach," is timing, which to me seems to be a vital part of being funny. I find myself being funny by just being myself, and I'm pretty sure most of your "funniness" would have to be via exposure/experience. I wouldn't think there's anything inborn about being humorous, evidence would be that different cultures find different things funny, if we naturally had a "funny bone," most if not all cultures would find/do the same things that are considered funny.

This.

The more time you spend with other people, going out on a limb, having fun, the more fun stories you have.

Except for those infamous things that usually end with, "Hey, check this out," or, "What could possibly go wrong?" On the plus side, at least your friends would have interesting stories to tell, and perhaps have good video to post on Youtube.

Comedic timing is hard to get, someone people simply deliver jokes better than others. I dont really "tell jokes" as much as I make witty remarks as situationally appropriate. A lot of it come from being able to make pop culture references that people wouldn't normally think of but find funny once the connection is made. Stand Up comedy is completely different and I think i would suck at it since I can't just sit around and think up really funny jokes to tell.

you're either born (intentionally) funny or you're not. that doesn't mean very funny people don't work on it.

funny has a lot of media. i'm a riot in person, but i would be pathetic as a stand-up.

OMG! A mouse just popped out of my computer!

And I'd say that I'm unnaturally funny. Thank you! I'll be back tomorrow.

Hey wait, don't leave! Where are you all going?

Humor seems to be born from pain.

😀

I'd say like many other abilities, one can be born with a natural sense of humor.

While both require timing, I think those are very different - the spontaneous/situation versus the rehearsed and delivered.

I think the worst is when unfunny people try to be funny. Just comes off as forced and awkward. In that case, it's better to just be a good audience for jokes and add to teh overall atmosphere.

My humor level sucks.

I love Arrested Development, but I doubt watching that show would make someone any funnier, unless you played Final Countdown while doing crappy magic tricks.

Observation has a lot to do with humor and then thinking quickly on your feet. You have to notice the absurd little things that people miss and then point them out with a witty remark almost immediately. It also helps to be pretty comfortable with the group you are around. Of course, different things are funny to different people. I love wit, but hate improv and in general stand-up comedy.

Hey can you find a youtube of Gob's entrance w/ the Final Countdown blaring? I tried w/ no avail

Timing is the key.

A sharp, quick wit can be developed with practice but some people are beyond hope...

Well, on a quick search, I found the "disappearing" yacht clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiJVtiKHhbk
