I think the only way they'll usually let you bail yourself out of jail, at least at the time of your booking, is if you have the necessary amount on your person in cash.

no... the whole point of bailing yourself out of jail is making someone accountable that you will show up at your court date. At least that is what happened to m... my friend. And my friend also had the cash in hand.

You can use your phone call to contact a bail-bondsman who accepts credit cards & pay him to bail you out, however AFAIK no police department takes Mastercard directly!

Yep, if your PD accepts CCs. It' be the same as having cash, and yes, I've bailed myself out a few times. The only reason for a bondsman is when you don't have the entire bailment.
