Can you ask for feedback on EBay?

I always leave great feedback (if they deserve it!) and only get feedback about 1/2 the time. :(

I just purchased something two weeks ago and left feedback (glowing and well deserved) but the seller didn't leave me any. :(

Can I email and request feedback?

It is often easier (and hence, more readily followed) if one provides a customized direct link to the feedback. The format I have used is:
  • cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?LeaveFeedbackShow&item=xxxxxxxx
where "xxxxxxxx" denotes the item number.

Ah, a truly caring, deeply concerned and incredibly witty reply by my friend, HappyPuppy.

Shouldn't you be remodeling the house, you bum? Get back to work! /cracks whip :D

even easier if you type up the feedback that you want the seller to leave it for you.

yes i did that once. from now on i'll send the other person an email, saying that i'd leave a feedback only after i receive a feedback.

Some people take feedback too seriously. I have been threatened negative feedback unless I leave positive feedback, and I have seen where others have gotten neutral/negative feedback for not leaving the other person positive feedback.

Well, the reason is that though I've been buying on EBay for going on 4 years now and have about....25 or so purchases, i have a whole 4 feedbacks. It doesn't make me look very dependable, I guess.

Funny, as soon as I win the auction, I pay right there and then...I think once I went about 8 hours after the auction ended before paying...I was sleeping. :D

You would think being that I pay instantly (literally, most times) that people would be happy to take two seconds to say "Mike rocks." Bastards. :p

The biggest factor is that no one wants to be first...because if problems arise with the purchase later (i.e. the video card catches fire, a stain is discovered in the pants), they can no longer use the feedback tool as a bargaining chip.

It would be very easy to threaten a seller with "Replace these pants or you'll get a negative feedback"

But yeah...you can ask for it. I usually wait until I receive the product and send another email where I try to make the feedback requiest sound like a passing comment...Something like: "Wow, I got the pants and they're great! Let's exchange feedback sometime ;)"

as a buyer... i pay with paypal.. and in the instructions i write:
the confirmed/verified paypal address is correct and up to date. When the item arrives, I will be glad to leave appropriate feedback and I ask that you, please, do the same for me.

As a seller, I send an additional thank you note when I ship... i write:
Hi, just wanted to let you know that i shipped your item today. the delivery confirmations # is XXXX.... please let me know when it arrives and we can exchange feedback.

Never had a problem.

I'll list something totally worthless & you can go ahead & buy it. I'll leave you immediate feedback. :)

I like your idea. Bomberman has a very similar idea. I'll try that next time. THanks to you both. :)

I hate when they don't. I paid the second the auction ended... I gave good feedback despite waiting a week before it even shipped.. And I notified her I left feedback... asked her to also... She said she would but still hasn't. It's been over a week since then. Not the first time I've gotten shafted.

'm waiting for a company I purchased something from to leave me feedback - I get pissed when I but something, pay lightning-quick, and do not receive feedback. I guess I can let it slide if someone buys something from me and doesn't leave feedback (they are the customer after all), but when I buy something (especially from a big Ebay vendor) and do not get feedback, it simeply pisses me off, and there's a damn good chance I won't buy from them again.
