Can you adjust the geforce 8800 fan speed without the use of ntune/rivatuner

The fan speed on my 8800gts is always at 60%. I would like to ramp it up to 85% to 100% depending on the extra noise it puts out.

I wasn't sure if there was a way to control it from the registy of something.
I have also heard that you can disconnect one of the fan wires to make it run at full speed. Does anyone know which wire should be disconnected?
