can you add bold and italic to text in a Gmail message?

using Firefox, don't see a way to do that. I want to underline, italicize, and bold some text when I send email via Gmail, but I don't see how. I tried HTML tags within the message, but that didn't work.

also, any of you firefox/yahoo mail users notice you can't do the bold etc thing with your mail? only IE seems to support that...

Rich Text for e-mail should be blocked. e-mail should be for plain text only.
