I have a nice working windows xp on c: partition with my 8200 dell lap top. and have been trying to put windows 98 on another partition but it keeps messing up the mbr of xp. I have tried to install 98 using setup/ntldr but it still messes up the mbr.
I tried to repair boot sector after nstalling 98 by using the xp repair console "fixboot" but it then it messes up 98 boot sector and I can not get into 98 but can get to xp.

What I plan is install 98 then reinstall xp corp edition upon itself.

I have reinstalled windows 98 over itself before and it manages to keep evrything intact except for direct x and other minor stuff.
I remember trying this before with windows 2000 but it did a complete fresh install instead of installing over itself and I had to load drivers, mail favorites, ect.

Can XP do what 98 does? is there a special command or do I just point xp install to the existing xp partition?

my ultimate goal is to have a working multi boot sector and I think by installing 98 first I can do this just dont want reinstall every thing in xp

thanks
