I am thinking of changing the CPU in my system from a single Athlon 64 to the dual core version. I am running XP Pro and it is a nice, clean, stable installation still. If I change out the CPU will I have to reload for the OS to recognize and change the kernel to the dual CPU configuration? I hate to do that if I can convert without a reload so would like to hear from the "experts" what will be required. Thanks.

To verify go into task manager and make sure it's got 2 processors under the 'Performance' tab.

Worked great for me, going from a 3000+ to an X2 3800+ :) On bootup, WinXP did its little New Hardware Detected balloon, saying it had detected an ACPI MultiProcessor PC and that the hardware was installed but might not work properly until a reboot. Reboot, zoom, Premiere Elements encode times chopped in half and multitasking smoothness >> before  Go for it!
