CAn Win98 kill your system?

That's right y'all,

I'm setting up an old P133 on a FX motherboard. It used to have win95 on it, so I thought it would do real well with 98lite. I formatted the drives to Fat32 and installed everyting through Cab files. Now it "lags"(understatement, over 5min sometimes) on boot up and sometimes hangs on shutdown. Everytime it accesses the DSL, it freezes and requires a reboot. I'm completely confused. I've run Wintune and Sandra on it and all the harware seems to work fine. Please Help!

As always,
D
