Can Win2k autohalt command be turned off?

crash

Hi,

I read in a post a while back, that I can no longer find, someone asked if Win2k halts the cpu when there is a long idle time...Will this feature be turned off when all power saver functions are turned off? Also does WinME have this feature? if so, how can I turn it off?

Win2K includes the HLT as part of the system idle thread, and cannot be turned off. It is the lowest priority, so it will not affect performance in any way, since it automatically gives way to other threads. This thread is always running, in the background, whether or not you actually have any programs running, or if the system is actually idle. Have a look at the process manager to see what I mean.

There is no equivalent in WinME. The CPU goes into idle when WinME goes into standby, but obviously does not if you have all Power Saving features turned off.
