Can Win2000 read XP's NTFS?

I'm going to be setting up a dual boot system for a friend, and I was wondering what needs to be done to let 2000 see XP's files. Does the admins have to have the same passwords, or does some pwd file need to be shared? I read the sticky and don't plan to use encryption.

Also is 2000 better for games than 98? I know of 2000's stability, but I'm worried some older games automaticaly throw up an error on an NT based system.

I plan to split a 120G WD SE into 2 partitons, both NTFS.

Thanks!

I recommend this setup:

C: small boot (keeps the boot files intact) 100 megs or greater
D: Windows 2000 (3-5 gigs)
E: Windows XP (3-5 gigs)
F: Apps (10-15 gigs)
G: Media (60 gigs)
H: Backups (35 gigs)

Y: DVD
Z: Burner

To avoid the annoyance with installing apps to the F drive I created two folders called 2K and XP then through the wonders of Junctions I have "Program files" pointed to them. So basically D:\Program Files = F:\2K

The partitions make the job of creating backup images very easy.🙂

and yes w2k can see NTFS created by XP.

There's no reason to dualboot 2K and XP, just pick one. XP is just a minor revision to 2K.

well in general there is no reason to use both xp and 2000 . i currently have never used 2000 so must install it to become familiarized with it for the a+ exam. so maybe the guy has a reason fro his.

as for gaming i would think xp is better than 2000 for gaming but since i have never used 2000 i cant say for sure.

Some of my hardware doesn't work right under XP, plus if I do modify XP files I just boot into 2K and make the changes needed.

It's nice to having the extra OS if XP doesn't boot for some reason and I'm in a hurry!!!
