Yeah, you can do this. Boot from the CD, select install, it'll warn you, select the same partition and folder. That way you just install over it. Then when it boots you have to patch that bitch as quick as possible.
I believe "patch that bitch" refers to going to windows update and downloading all critical updates your reinstall erased.
you should still have all of your personal files under "my documents" and any folders you created on the drive. however, I think all of your preferences (appearance, desktop, etc.) will be at factory settings.
Anyone else have experience reinstalling Windows XP without formatting the drive or losing data? What about upgrading from XPhome to XPpro? I just read from Microsoft's website that you might lose files under "Shared Documents" after a reinstall. :Q
