Can IDE Raid be used on the Canterwood or Springdale motherboards or is it just for serial ATA drives?

Review on AT says SATA, but nothing keeps Asus, etc. from also adding a Highpoint or Promise chip for P-ATA raid, and of course you can also buy a PCI RAID card.

SerialATA and IDE are essentially the same thing (technically IDE isn't the right term for most drives, they should be ATA, or now parallel ATA to distinguish them from SATA). SATA is completely software compatible with PATA, basically just some chips and the pins that changed.

Quote from AT article: "There's nothing too special about Intel's RAID 0 support, but do keep in mind that the RAID only applies to the two Serial ATA channels on the motherboard, not the Parallel ATA channels."

The upcoming Epox 4PCA3+ (i875P) has 4 ATA/133 RAID connectors with modes 0, 0+1, 1, and 5 available. It uses the Highpoint 374 chip.

Raid 5? Thats pretty sweet, I'm wondering how much that will cost and if it will be a hardware or software version.

It'll be software, and will put a hurtin' on your CPU if you try running RAID 5; the HPT374 is a software RAID controller found on many of the softRAID solutions on the market (HighPoint RocketRAID cards).

If I had to guess, the board will probably cost around $200-$225 when it makes it way to market. The thing is absolutely LOADED with everything you could imagine! I waiting patiently for it before I go about upgrading an P3 I still have around.
