hello,

Can we upgrade notebook parts of notebooks that were bought from dell, hp, ibm, sony, etc like barebones notebooks.

I mean literally replacing motherboard, cpu, video card and only retaining the chasis, lcd and hard disk?

Would it fit the existing notebooks

Some people say it's cheaper to buy parts than buying whole notebook packages

It is never cheaper to buy a lappy mobo as a part. They aint that cheap. Most of the time you can't change what kind of mobo are in laptops as they have to fit just right. Video just just now being able to upgrade in the Dell XPS systems. But Ram, Hdd, and CPU you can play with.

Same question here:

I've just purchaced an Acer Aspire 5672WMLi, it has the intel 945PM chipset, this is the newest chipset available to date I guess.

can this one maybe be updated with a new graphics chip? I haven't seen in it in the specification, but who knows.

http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945pm/945pm_diagram.htm

it has a PCI express x16 slot, and I guess this is where my graphics chip is in. this should be replacable right? or is it a fixed slot?

Depends on who made the laptop, not who made the chipset. I would guess probably not.

I'm looking into buying a similar notebook and was hoping to get a barebone so I could build it myself.
Does anyone know if a 945pm express chipset barebone exsists other than the Acer?
