I belive you need the digital out. Eitehr get a 5.1 or a Santa Cruz/GTXP for dolby digital

(If I'm wrong, someone correct me)

I believe that you can buy a daughter card for the SB Live, or you could buy a Live Drive which would give you an optical and/or coax out. You could then run that to an external Dolby Digital decoder and listen to 5.1 soundtracks. Kind of a pain unless you happen to already have an external DD decoder.

but lemme get this straight...you can't get dolby digital sound in most games? Also, can you pair up a set of digital AND analog speakers and plug them into the 5.1 card and use them both simultaneously?

the sound blaster live and the sound blaster live value DO NOT support dolby digital 5.1 output.. I know because I had the DTT2500s and they have the decoder but could not get the 5.1 input from the sb live. You need to get a version of the SB Live with the 5.1 after the name in order to have 5.1 output.

A newer Live Value will work because they have the digital out. You can also get a daughter card like benchiu said. The 5.1 series also has 5.1 analog outputs, but you don't need it if your speakers have a Dolby Digital decoder...
