Can we not handle a friendly debate in OT?

Referring to the UAW thread that was moved to P&N. If you're going to move non-political news threads to P&N, at least be consistent.

Here are some other threads on the front page of OT that belong in P&N:

Along with all the car news threads NSF4 posts.

I think we all agree that those threads aren't REALLY what P&N is for, so where do you draw the line? If it sparks a debate? That's stupid. We can handle a friendly debate in OT. If you take out threads that actually make people THINK, then all you're left with is the crap the teenagers post. I thought that's what you DON'T want?

I'd like OT to be a worthwhile place to post.

If you got this far, thanks for reading this before locking and/or deleting it.

Duplication of effort

Also, some tried to interject politics into the thread.

That would trigger the red flag to switch over to a more nasty knife sharpening area.

Perhaps P&N could be renamed to "Politics and News which will cause debate" 🙂
(I've always looked at it that way)

I think the majority of people here, as well as the mods, have a rather clear understanding of which topics belong in which forum, despite the nebulous nature of the "rules."

I fail to see the issue.

There's been a lot of other UAW threads that were left in OT. I don't know when exactly this one was moved, but I think it was when Dave came in and started spouting political crap. Don't move it to P&N and ruin the thread for those of us in OT who don't venture into P&N, warn/vacation the offending member and delete his post(s).

I hate it when I'm in a thread where there's a good FRIENDLY debate going and the mods lock/delete/move the thread.

(And there's plenty of members who scream "P&N!" in threads that don't belong in P&N, that gets pretty tiresome too. A classic example was a thread that had "bush" in the title and people were yelling at the OP even though the thread had NOTHING to do with the president... they didn't even read his post!)
