Aside from being kind of creepy and personally invasive, nobody ever responds to them. I'm not sure people even read them.

Why do you hate Zim Hosein? The birthday post is the only thing he's posted in a LONG time...poor guy needs SOMETHING to do.

I just see it as an unuseful, wasted entry that I have to wade through during the rare times I check the new posts list.

Does anybody tell websites their real birthday? I always saw it as a pointless release of personal info with no possible benefit except once upon a time ago, and I don't even remember which online merchant, but on whatever day you entered as your birthday (didn't have to be the correct date), they'd email you a 10% off coupon code. I guess whoever it was, they stopped doing that because I haven't gotten the coupon in years... or maybe I just abandoned the email addy they had and didn't update it with them.
