The kid likes to watch scary movies (he calls the "spooky" movies), so I put one on, and time and time again significant other flips out and says he is not ready to see people stabbing each other, heads and limbs getting ripped off, peoples heads being sewn into other people's butts, shit like that.

So can you helpful souls please post some movies that are at least a little scary, but not too scary? Like Poltergeist is a good one, kind of scary actually, but not crazy scary with blood and stuff. But we already watched that one

Thanks for any help!

5yo didn't even hesitate to choose Bloody Mess when I first read the description to her when choosing the next perk in New Vegas. I think your pretend SO worries too much about your pretend kid.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

It does have head chopping and arm lacerating action but that's not really the scary part. It's the acting that really gets under your skin and makes you wonder wtf you are watching. It's more scary than you could ever imagine.
Don't ever watch this film let alone make your kid watch it. It will keep them and you up at night wondering wtf you just watched. Trust me it's scary as fuck but for all the wrong reasons.

Wait.... are you implying that saying every line in monotone with absolutely zero emotion or facial expression-change isn't an awesome display of acting prowess ?!?

ALL variations of "IT." Start with the older version, 1990, then the 2017 ep. 1 followed by the latest It-2.

I like silly/spooky stuff like:

High Spirits with Peter O'Toole and Daryll Hannah.

Transylvania 6-5000 with Geene Davis and Jeff Goldblum

Or maybe you'd be more into not funny but more cerebral:

Ghost Story with Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and John Houseman
