Can use AIM, but not the Internet?!?!?!

Friend can use AIM, but the Internet doesn't work because his Network Admin dad did something do the router.

Can any network gurus help him out? Maybe he blocked port 80? That's what I'm assuming...

P.S.

Router is a D-Link DI-604
and I think he says its pass locked

Well there must be some sort of reason why his Dad blocked the internet. :disgust: And if he discovers that you two successfully circumvented his measures I'm sure he will be very pleased with you.

If he's using AIM then he has working Internet connectivity. I assume you mean that web browsing doesn't work. Outbound port 80 has probably been blocked. If so, then the only way around it -- without plugging directly into the cable/DSL modem -- would be to use an external web proxy on some port other than 80.

sometimes I get the same problem with AIM working but no sites pop up and it ends up being a DNS issue. Maybe he blocked DNS

ohh yeah you can test this by getting an IP address of a site and putting it into the address bar of a browser should pop the site up if it is just DNS. Just ping a site from a working computer to figure out what their IP address is... sorry if you already knew this just making sure... Good luck
