can undervolting ram make it fail?

I have crucial ballistix (2-2-2-8 @2.8v) but my mobo only puts out 2.7.

i tested in mem test for 12 hours and it was fine.

however this is my 4th set of ram to die this year. can it be because of undervolting?? or is it maybe a mobo problem (i just bought a new one anyway cuz im tired of this pos ga-ka8nxp)

Well... I imagine giving less power than is required would cause damage to any of your hardware eventually.

That's just me though. I could be wrong.

I can't figure out wahts causing the ram to randomly die. I have a 600w enermax powersupply which checks fine on all the rails.....

I don't know how else to troubleshoot this. I'm getting a new mobo on thurs. its in the mail (EPOX EP-9NPA+Ultra )

Undervolting can cause the RAM not to function properly. However, I doubt a 0.1v gap is making that kind of difference. Moreover, I've never heard of any permanent damage from such undervolting.

Can't you manually set the voltage?

My board undervolts at default setting, but it doesn't make much difference since I intentionally overvolt everything but the chipset.

Undervolting should never hurt anything. At worst it'll make it run unstably, but it won't cause any physical damage. Overvolting (to excessive levels, with inadequate cooling) is what causes damage.
