can u play half life and UT on linux?

new to linux, and i know theres alot of versions. can u play games on it though. don't they use linux for servers on games now, if so they must be compatible.....

the reason is on my secnd comp windows 95 gives me too many problems, and i need a back up until i can save for my windows 2000 licence

yes, they will both work. i'll let others who have actually done it reply further about that, but i know they DO work.

if you dont really want to "learn" linux then you will probably wanna download Mandrake or Redhat. they are more graphical systems and are friendly for games and such until you get win2k (why not winxp?).

1. UT is available for Linux. Just put the CD in, download the Linux installer from Loki Games, run it, and you're all set.
2. A Half-Life dedicated server (not the playable game) is available for Linux. If you want to play the game, you will need to try to get it working in Wine. I have had no success with it, so you're on your own.
3. If you just want something easy, and are not serious about learning the ways of Linux, use Redhat or Mandrake. If you want to learn how to use Linux the way it is supposed to be used, get Gentoo, Debian, or Slackware, and be sure to give LFS a try sometime.
