Yes, you can make $7.00/hr copying lots of handwritten stuff into computers for 8 hours a day.

Anyone can type fast, you just have to be able to read it, have correct punctuation, grammar, etc. ;)

Typing fast in a requirement for many entry-level positions.

Ability to use applications is more likely to get you a job, but even then, that is commonplace and makes you one out of many.

QFT. There's a whole generation of kids growing up with AIM and blogging. I don't think it's in much demand.

<-- Learned fast typing in Ultima Online starting 7-8 years ago

Sure, data entry. Though most of the time data entry doesn't just require you to type out letter style paragraphs.

YOUNG.. KIDS....

nothing to be proud of. If your 15 year old son can get the job, then you're just worthless as a fast typer..

Don't think it's as important as it was pre-80s. Most stuff doesn't need to be transcribed anymore, just simple cut and paste or OCR.

My 100wpm got me a job over the summer when nobody would hire me on the short term basis.

When I tested, I also had 0 errors, so yes, it can get you a job. the 14 an hour wasn't bad at all.

EDIT: I mean of course you have to be able to type correctly. Can't just be your omghi2u typing. And it also depends on what you mean by fast. I see lots of replies saying everyone can type fast, but I don't see many people breaking the 60wpm.
