Can two wireless mice work in the same room?

I have a pc and a mac and picked up two optical mice (one the logitech mx700 and the other is a generic, $30 one) and the $30 one is acting INSANE.. Sometime's it's smooth as silk the other time it spams like a tickle me elmo.. Well, not the mouse but the cursor that the mouse controls.. I have no problems returning the mouse but wonder if having two RF mice on one desk is overkill- will it always lead to some sorta interference? I'm not sure how rf works.. The mx700 is working great though..

Well, first of all, the FCC controls all RF emissions in the united states (well at least sets the rules, and assigns frequencies to companies) both mice are likely using an "Unlicensed" portion of the EM Spectrum, (the most commonly known ones in use nowadays are the 900 Mhz band, and the 2.4 Ghz band. most likely your mice are working on the 900 Mhz band, (Higher frequencies require more power) since only one of them is affected, I would say that the two mice are likely not interfering with each other, but more likely a cordless phone ore something like that is interfering with the transmission.

My Logitech USB cordless optical mouse and the reciever that plugs into the PC both have a connect button. See if your generic one has the same thing, and try that a couple of times. (Usually, they will begin to communicate with each other on a slightly different frequency, and that may clear things up.) on mine you press the reciever one, then the mouse one, but check your manual.

Yep, try changing the channel on the Logitech mouse...

Have you moved the receiver for the generic mouse next to any other electronic equipment? Make sure that is not near your monitor, speakers, radio, etc. Also, I would try putting the receivers for each mouse as far away as possible from each other so that they don't interfere with each other.
